There have been delays in the conduct of the Anambra State governorship election in the Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.
According to Vanguard, as of 1pm, the election materials had yet to arrive the entire part of the local government despite having 20 electoral wards.
It was learnt that anxious voters in the various polling units arrived early but they were disappointed with the non-arrival of materials.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Don Adinuba, attributed the ugly development to logistical problems.
SaharaReporters had also reported the malfunctioning of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Bimodal system machines, BIVAS as well as the tense insecurity situation on Saturday affecting the turnout and smooth flow of the election.
“Inadequate staff, fear of unknown gunmen, scarce ad hoc staff and transporters, BIVAS technology broke down in most polling units,” an update received by SaharaReporters reads.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that the capturing machine at Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s Polling Unit/Ward, PU 002, Ward 13, Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, did not work for hours and delayed the process.
Soludo is the flagbearer of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Anambra 2021 governorship election.
Eighteen political parties and candidates are in the Anambra governorship race.
Also, the lack of sufficient vehicles has since caused a delay in the deployment of security personnel with many units in the area opening polls without security officials.
The stranded security personnel scampered to enter the few vehicles available.
Amid the confusion, some could be seen shouting at each other as they struggled to get to their assigned units.
On why there was no proper arrangement for conveying the security officials, an official said the question should be referred to the state Commissioner of Police or the police spokesperson.
