10 Persons Charged To Court For Selling UNICEF School Materials In Adamawa

Ten persons have been charged to court for stealing and selling learning materials donated by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) in Adamawa State.
SaharaReporters had on October 5, 2021, reported that the UNICEF said that it learnt that some government officials in Adamawa State diverted learning materials donated for children’s use to private ventures.





It was gathered that the persons included; top government official at various levels of the basic education sector.
Materials stolen and sold include books, rulers and school bags according to the Executive Chairman of Adamawa State Universal Basic Basic Board (ADSUBEB), Salihi Atique.
He said, “The police have arrested 10 suspects in Michika, Mubi South, Hong and Yola north local government areas.”
Atique, urged donor agencies to use coding and dates “on their supplies to enable us easily identify diverted items in the market.”
Initially, four persons were arrested and charged to court, including an Education Secretary and remanded in correctional facility in Yola for selling UNICEF learning materials.
