The Burkina Faso security officials have stopped some trucks loaded with arms and ammunition heading to the neighbouring country, Niger Republic.
One of the trucks numbering up to six had an armoured tank, but the Burkina Faso authorities were seen asking the drivers of the trucks to reverse from the border.
This was revealed in a video obtained by SaharaReporters on Thursday but checks showed it happened on November 25.
In the video, the man filming the incident said they were taking the weapons to Niger Republic to kill people, which could be through terrorism or militia activities.
He also accused the French government of being behind the smuggling of arms into Francophone countries in Africa.
“This is witchcraft in broad daylight. Arms to kill people. Look! Look! Arms to kill people. We must thank Burkina officials for the good job of stopping them! Good job! Look, this is bullshit!
“See that? All those containers are full of arms to kill our brothers! This has got to stop! It must! Watch this! See this is my brothers and sisters. We’re very happy, the Burkinabes have done good. They know their rights to intercept these arms. Just see this.
“They contain only arms, weapons to kill with. Evil things. Take a good look my countrymen of Niger! You see this? It all comes from France. To be used in killing us and our countrymen. And this was heading to Niger to kill. No, no, no this is unacceptable! We must change this. We must rise up!” the narrator said.
In the video in which people spoke in French but subtitled in English, the narrator called on Nigerien President, Mohamed Bazoum and other African countries to rise against the smuggling of arms.
“Africa has stood up, we’ve awoken! We can’t accept this. We must change this. It’s nothing but arms. France has no shame. France has no shame. My countrymen, see this? Let the President of Niger see this. President Bazoum Mohammed, take a good look. See what they are bringing?
“They’ve been asked to return. The Burkina authorities have denied them crossing into Niger. Take a good look everyone. They’ve been forced to reverse from the border! Forcibly…to reverse. Look! All these are truckloads filled with arms! Since we’ve been here, as far as the eye can see,” he added.
