Governor Ishaku Says Boko Haram, ISWAP Terrorists Are Planning To Have Camps In Taraba With Help Of Traditional Rulers

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, has said intelligence report shows that terrorist groups, Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP), are planning to establish terrorist camps in his state.

The governor accused traditional rulers in the state of being “neck-deep” in their support for the terrorist groups, threatening to dethrone any traditional ruler found harbouring the criminals.

He stated on Thursday at an event to sign the N149 billion 2022 budget of the state into law at the Executive Chamber of the Government House in Jalingo, the state capital.

Ishiaku, who appeared to have arrived at the venue late, said, “My delay in coming to sign the 2022 budget and address you is because of security challenges. Boko Haram and ISWAP are trying to set up camps in this state and that is why we had an emergency meeting for over one and a half hours before my coming here.

“It is very sad that the traditional rulers are neck-deep in encouraging this insecurity. Let me warn: I will not, and I repeat, I will not tolerate it and I will not waste time to remove any traditional ruler that misbehaves.

“I am kind and soft, but let me tell, you, ask those who are close to me, I can sometimes be decisive. Being quiet and gentle does not make me a mere footstalk to be rubbished. Security, we must decide to hold it firmly because it affects you, me and every other person. When they are shooting, the bullet doesn’t know who.”

He said any leader must be ready to do away with one person to save thousands of lives.

He insisted that his administration was taking the security of lives and property seriously and would leave no stone unturned to achieve its objectives.
