Omoyele Sowore, the prominent Nigerian human rights activist, publisher of Sahara Reporters, and two-time presidential candidate, has confirmed that he is safe and unharmed after being attacked by thugs at the Lagos City Marathon on Saturday.
Sowore, who was participating in the marathon, found himself and his crew targeted in a seemingly unprovoked assault.
Despite the violence, Sowore took to social media to assure his supporters and the public that he had escaped the incident unscathed.
Sowore wrote on his Facebook page: “I am safe and unharmed in Lagos. Yes, some rogue elements launched an attack on us after completing the Lagos Marathon today, claiming that we unlawfully occupied the “VVIP” space post-event. They mobilized thugs to assault us.”
Earlier today thugs attacked Sowore and his team, on Saturday morning at the Lagos City Marathon.
The thugs were also said to have attacked some journalists covering the event.
Some of the journalists’ cameras and other gadgets were said to have been damaged by the thugs.
A camera wielding journalist, it was learnt, was grabbed by his neck by one of the thugs.
