Chief Dubem Onyia, Former Minister and House Representative, Passes Away

Former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and ex-House of Representatives member, Chief Dubem Onyia, has tragically passed away at the age of 73.

Onyia, who was elected to the House of Representatives in 1999 before resigning to serve in President Olusegun Obasanjo’s cabinet, passed away on Monday at a hospital in Abuja after a brief illness.


During his tenure as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs from 1999 to 2003, he led several international negotiations and represented Nigeria in key diplomatic engagements.

He also served as Chairman of the International Technical Commission for the National Boundary Commission, Chairman of the Nigeria Economic Joint Commission, and Chairman of the São Tomé and Príncipe Joint Boundary Commission.

Onyia was a member of various corporate boards and government committees, receiving multiple national and international honours for his contributions.
