Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has raised alarm over the detention of Alabi Quadri, a teenager held at Kirikiri Minimum Security Custodial Centre since January on questionable robbery charges.
According to Effiong, Alabi was abducted by local area boys angry he didn’t “settle” them after receiving attention for halting Peter Obi’s convoy during the 2023 campaign. They handed him over to police, who charged him—alongside four unknown adults—with armed robbery involving N579,000 in cash and phones.
Despite being a minor, Alabi has appeared in court three times and remains in custody pending advice from the Lagos State DPP. Effiong called the case a troubling example of injustice and vowed to secure the boy’s release.
