Suspected Fulani herdsmen has launched a violent assault on Mbasombo community in Gwer East Local Government Area few minutes’ drive from Makurdi, the state capital.
The attack left three people dead, with several others injured and feared missing. as eyewitnesses said heavily armed assailants stormed the village under the cover of darkness, opening fire indiscriminately and setting houses on fire.
The attack has left many panic residents to flee the community into surrounding bushes and nearby villages.
Local vigilante groups who attempted to repel the attackers were overwhelmed by the superior firepower and number of the assailants.
As at the time of filing this report Benue State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the incidents.
