Two d!e as mine collapses in Niger State

Two men have lost their lives following a rockslide at an unauthorised mining site in Farin-Doki, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Wasi’u Abiodun, stated that the tragic incident occurred on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

The victims, identified as Buhari Kano and Mallam Tasiu, both from Kano State, were reportedly trapped during the collapse.

Responding swiftly, police operatives from the Erena Division, along with local residents, carried out rescue efforts.

Unfortunately, both individuals were found lifeless. Their bodies have since been deposited at Zumba Hospital for further examination.

Preliminary investigations suggest the miners were operating illegally at the site during the night prior to the incident.

A full investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collapse.

Mining pit collapses have become a recurring and deadly concern in Niger State, raising fresh questions about the safety and regulation of artisanal mining activities in the region.
