There must be a bigger purpose. But I can?t see it!- Former Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp mourns Diogo Jota?s death

Former Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has paid an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota after the Reds forward was tragically killed in a car accident in Spain.

The Portuguese striker, aged 28, lost his life in a car accident alongside his brother André in the early hours of Thursday on the A52 near Cernadilla, Zamora.

Reacting via his Instagram handle, Klopp stated that he’s heartbroken.

He also admitted that Jota will be missed so much as he also condoled Jota’s wife, Rute, and their children.

”I am heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother André.”

The German gaffer described Jota as a “fantastic player,” adding that he was a “great friend and a loving father.”

“We will miss you so much! All my prayers, thoughts, and power to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends, and everyone who loved them! Rest in peace.”

Klopp coached Jota during his time at Liverpool, having signed the Portuguese from Premier League side Wolves in 2020.

Jota earned 49 caps for the Portuguese national team, winning the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025.

Jota played an important role in Liverpool’s recent title-winning season, scoring six goals and providing four assists in 26 appearances.
