Japan Donates ₦3.6bn Equipment to Boost Nigeria’s Road Infrastructure

The Government of Japan has donated construction equipment worth ₦3.6 billion to the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to support road infrastructure development in Nigeria.

The equipment was officially commissioned at a ceremony attended by key stakeholders, including the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo; the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Suzuki Hideo; the Managing Director of FERMA, Engr. Emeka Agbasi; and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on FERMA, Senator Sahabi Yau and Engr. Remi Oseni.

Speaking at the event, Minister Goronyo described the donation as a strategic milestone in Nigeria’s push for sustainable infrastructure renewal adding that, the equipment will boost FERMA’s capacity to maintain and rehabilitate the country’s road network.

He posited that the generous contribution from Japan brings the country closer to the vision of smoother, safer, and more reliable travel across the country.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure as a key component of economic growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also urged FERMA’s technical teams to ensure the effective deployment of the equipment for the benefit of Nigerians.

The Japanese Ambassador, Suzuki Hideo, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development efforts.

The event marked a new chapter in Nigeria’s road maintenance drive and further strengthened bilateral ties between Nigeria and Japan.
