Today, we are at the Federal High Court in Abuja confronting, head-on, one of the most brazen abuses of state power in recent history. This is our first case of the year, filed last year against the illegal Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in his personal capacity, for the reckless and egregious violation of my fundamental human rights. Having been challenged over his impunity and his unlawful occupation of the office of the IGP, Egbetokun responded not with law, but with raw force. He deployed the Nigeria Police as a private weapon, harassing, intimidating, and targeting me, at times with clear intent to cause bodily harm, and at other moments crossing into the territory of attempted assassination.
