Man On The Run After Assaulting Woman Over Argument About N5,000 In Lagos

A man, Mr Sunday Adeleke is on the run after allegedly assaulting a woman, Silverleen Obasi for demanding an explanation over N5,000 increase in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) registration for her younger brother’s friend.

The incident which happened on Saturday has been brought to the notice of the Marshall Belt of Investigation (MBI) Human Rights group as the accused has been on the run.

According to Mr Chris Essien, an MBI Human Rights worker who spoke to SaharaReporters, Adeleke slapped Obasi and also pushed her against a glass that gave her a deep cut on her leg.

The incident landed her in the hospital.

The incident happened at Adeleke’s office identified as Varsity Point, beside Stanbic IBTC, Abule Ado, Lagos.

According to Obasi, her younger brother’s friend had paid Adeleke a sum of N45,000 for the registration of the WASSCE Private examination also known as General Certificate Examination (GCE), only for him to be asking for another N5,000.

His mother appealed to Obasi to help investigate the reason for the additional N50,000, which led to the assault.

“This man asked me to get out of his office. He didn’t even know me before. I said sir but why. He shouted at me to get out. I said you’re very rude as you don’t even know me and did not allow me to talk before you started insulting me like this.

“He came from where he was and started dragging my clothes. I did nothing to him. People came close to him dragging me with him, that he should leave me alone, and he slapped me. He pushed me and my leg hit the glass and gave me this deep cut,” Obasi said.

Mr Essien said Adeleke had been on the run since and would be traced to another office he has at FESTAC.

He said the incident would be reported at the police station closest to his office.
