Bandits have invaded Yar Tsakuwa Village in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, abducting nine persons including the serving councillor of the area, Lawali Bello.

Two wives and a daughter of the former councillor of the area, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba, were among the abductees, Daily Trust reports.

A resident, Nazifi Abdullahi, said that the bandits came around midnight on Saturday and operated till 2:50am.

They reportedly ransacked houses and shops including medical stores, robbing people of their belongings.

According to Abdullahi, the bandits stole several motorcycles, food stuff and assorted drugs.

He said they abducted over 20 persons but released others while returning to their hideouts.

“But nine persons are currently with them, including our serving councillor and wives and daughter of our former councillor,” he said.

He disclosed that the former councillor had left the village because of incessant attacks, adding that the wives and the daughter were in the village to attend the naming ceremony of their newborn grandson.

Abdullahi said the bandits shot and injured one person, who was taken to Talata Mafara General Hospital in Zamfara State for treatment.
