An Akure Magistrate Court has ordered that 37-year-old trigger happy police sergeant  Idowu Omosuyi, pictured left, be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Service for killing a truck driver, Ade Saleh, who refused to give him N100 bribe.

Recall that on December 3rd, LIB shared the sad story of how Saleh, was shot in the head with an AK47 rifle by Omoruyi, for allegedly failing to give a N100 bribe on December 2nd along Uso-Owo road in Akure, the state capital. Ade died instantly from the gunshot wound.

The public outcry forced the police to investigate the matter and Omoruyi was arrested and charged to court for murder,

At the hearing of the case this morning, the police prosecutor, Inspector Goodluck Uloh, told the court that the accused committed the offence while on official duty. He mentioned to the court that the offence committed was contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319 on the criminal code cap 37, Volume 1, of the Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

Counsel to Omoruyi, Ikujuni Ademola, had asked the court to order that he returns to Police custody but the trial Magistrate, Charity Adeyanju, ordered that the accused police officer be remanded in Olokuta, Correctional service till December 27, 2019, for hearing.

Commenting on the matter, the spokesperson of the state police command, Femi Joseph, said the state police command will not protect the accused from facing trial.

“We want to restate our earlier stand that the command and indeed the Nigeria police will never shield any of his personnel that commits any manner of infraction or illegality” he said
