Overwatch World Cup winner and Overwatch League veteran Shane “Rawkus” Flaherty has retired from Overwatch to pursue a career in VALORANT.
Rawkus explained his decision via Twitlonger, highlighting some of his favorite Overwatch memories, thanking many people throughout his career, then talked about what’s next for him.
“I grew up playing fps games like CSGO and Valorant hit me differently,” Rawkus said in the post. “When I realized how it had a similar style of CSGO aiming mixed in with ability usage, I instantly felt comfortable.”
Rawkus also noted that more news about his future will be coming soon.
Rawkus represented Team USA in the Overwatch World Cup from 2017 to 2019, winning gold last year. Two other members of that starting lineup, Jay “Sinatraa” Won and Corey “Corey” Nigra, have also retired from Overwatch to become VALORANT pros. Sinatraa is currently signed with Sentinels, while Corey is part of FaZe Clan. FaZe Clan also recently signed former OWL pro Zachary “ZachaREEE” Lombardo.
Rawkus spent his entire OWL career as a member of the Houston Outlaws, where he was announced as part of the initial roster in 2017.
