A man simply identified as Vwede on Sunday beat his two-year-old son till he lost consciousness and later died.
The boy was confirmed dead at a private hospital in Bayelsa State.
Vwede hails from Delta State but resides in Bayelsa.
The accident, according to an NGO, Do Foundation, occurred along Imiringi Road, a suburb of Yenagoa, the state capital.
It was gathered that the deceased was often tortured by his father.
The mother of the deceased boy was said to have abandoned the union.
The State Coordinator of the Do Foundation, Comfort Itoru, who confirmed the development to journalists, said the incident had been reported at Akenfa Police Station.
Itoru, however, said the killer-father was at large.
Itoru said the foundation has since reached out to other advocacy groups in the state, including the State Gender Response Initiative Team (GRIT) to prevail on the Nigeria Police to investigate and prosecute the man who killed an innocent child.
“We have reached out to other advocacy groups over the incident. We however call on residents of the state not to keep quiet in the face of noticeable violence against the girl child, underaged and women,” Itoru said.
