Kidnapped Nigerian Catholic Priest Freed After 10 Days

A Catholic priest, Rev. Father Mark Chimezie Godfrey of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Umuahia, Abia State has been released after spending 10 days in the kidnappers’ den.

Rev Fr Godfrey was kidnapped along Enyiukwu Road, Ohokobe Afaraukwu community, Ibeku in the Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state on October 13, 2021. 



He was released on Saturday, October 23, The Punch reports.

The development was announced by the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia through a statement signed by the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia, Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji. 

Bishop Ugorji thanked God for answering the prayers of the diocese. 

He also expressed gratitude to all bishops, priests, consecrated men and women as well as all Christian faithful who assisted in prayers during the difficult and trying period the priest was in captivity.

Meanwhile, it was not mentioned whether any ransom was paid to secure his freedom.
