Anambra Election: Nigerian Army Kills Four Gunmen Who Shot Dead Two Department Of State Services Officers

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of four gunmen who were part of those who attacked operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Anambra State on Friday, killing two personnel.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, announced the elimination of the attackers in a statement on Saturday.

He said troops of 82 Division conducting Exercise Golden Dawn neutralised the gunmen in a gun battle on Friday evening at Nnobi Junction in Idemili South Local Government.

SaharaReporters had reported that the officers were ambushed by the gunmen while on an election campaign duty in the Ekwulobia area of the state.

Some footage and photographs showed the extent of firepower against the security agents as bullets riddled windshields of vehicles.

The army spokesperson said that after the attack, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and embarked on the pursuit of the criminals along Nnewi – Nnobi road.

“The soldiers made contact with the fleeing gunmen, engaged them and killed four. A number of weapons and items were recovered.

“These include two AK-47 Rifles, one GALIL Ace 5.56 x 45 Iwi Gun, one Avofeng Handheld radio and one Black Highlander jeep,” he said.

The army spokesperson condemned the attempt by the Indigenous People of Biafra and its Eastern Security Network to instil fear “and sabotage forthcoming Anambra governorship election.”
