University Of Ilorin Student Assaults Female Lecturer, Varsity Teacher Lands In Hospital

A 400-level student of the Department of Microbiology, University of Ilorin has beaten his lecturer, identified as Mrs R. F. Zakariyah unconscious.

The assault was said to have occurred on Thursday.

Zakariyah is said to be the student’s project supervisor.

The student, simply identified as Captain Walz, had reportedly sought the assistance of the lecturer after failing to observe the compulsory Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), Daily Trust reports.

It was learnt that the student had gone to his supervisor’s office to seek her assistance over his failure to go for the mandatory internship programme.

It was however learnt that Zakariyah refused to offer any assistance to the student, a situation that allegedly infuriated Walz, leading him to inflict injuries on the lecturer.

She was subsequently rushed to the hospital for treatment and said to have stabilised.

The school’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun confirmed the development, saying, “Yes, the incident is true but the lecturer is now in a stable condition. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Abdulkareem Age visited her in the company of some Deans and other university staff (members).

“They further described the incident as unfortunate and sad, and assured justice will be done on the matter.

“He (The Vice-Chancellor) ordered proper care of the victim on the bill of the university.”
