Bears DC clears COVID protocols, back for MNF

Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Sean Desai has cleared COVID-19 protocols and will return for Monday night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, coach Matt Nagy said on WBBM-AM in Chicago.

Desai, along with offensive coordinator Bill Lazor and special teams coordinator Chris Tabor, entered COVID-19 protocols last week.

With Lazor and Tabor still out, John DeFilippo and Brian Ginn will serve as the offensive and special teams coordinators, respectively, on Monday night, Nagy said. Nagy suggested that he will be the Bears’ offensive play-caller and will work closely with DeFilippo.

The Bears (4-9) placed cornerback Jaylon Johnson and safety Tashaun Gipson Sr. on the reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday and now have 14 players on the list, including the entire starting secondary, with Johnson and Gipson joining safety Eddie Jackson and cornerback Artie Burns.

The list includes receiver Allen Robinson, backup quarterback Andy Dalton, right tackle Larry Borom and defensive end Mario Edwards Jr.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
