Ejiofor Condemns Igbo Leaders’ Silence on Nnamdi Kanu’s Case During Tinubu’s South-East Visit

Aloy Ejiofor, the lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, who is facing charges of treason and terrorism in Nigeria, has criticized Igbo leaders for their silence on the ongoing case of Nnamdi Kanu during a visit by Bola Tinubu to the South-East region.

Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is currently facing charges of treason and terrorism.

Ejiofor, who took to his X handle on Monday morning, reacted to a report by Guardian News platform which is titled, “Concerns over Igbo leaders’ silence on Kanu at Tinubu’s meeting”.

The report revealed that the Igbo leaders’ failed to present the issue of releasing the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at a Town Hall meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

Reacting to this, Ejiofor expressed disappointment in the Igbo leaders’ lack of advocacy for Kanu’s release, stating, “There are moments in our lives when SILENCE is not golden; when silence amounts to duplicity and complicity. That moment is now.”

President Bola Tinubu had on Saturday undertaken a state visit to Enugu State to commission some of the numerous projects executed by the Governor Peter Mbah Administration.

Earlier, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, had expressed hope that Nnamdi Kanu will be released soon.

Ohanaeze shared its optimism in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, where it also expressed joy over the gradual “attitudinal change of the federal government towards the Igbo.”

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo expresses immense delight over the gradual attitudinal change of the Federal Government towards the Igbo. Ohanaeze has insisted that national peace, unity, patriotism and sustainable economic development of any country are the outcomes, effects or products of equity, and social justice.” a statement by the body reads.

“In other words, there is hardly any society or group that can be complacent under severe existential threats such as orchestrated marginalisation, relative deprivations, and external instigation of insecurity, conflagrations and crises.”

“It is therefore hoped that with the Enugu visit, President Tinubu will write his name with gold in the hearts of Ndigbo and all the well-meaning Nigerians, if he orders for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”
