
Nigerians are raising concerns over the Nigeria Police Force’s adherence to its principle of neutrality following the publication of opinionated articles on the force’s official social media pages.
Titled “THE NIGERIAN INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE: THE VALIDITY OF HIS TENURE AND THE NEED FOR PATRIOTIC ACTIVISM” by Chukwuemerie Uduchukwu and “Sowore, Egbetokun: Differentiating Between the Law, Emotions, and Cheap Populism” by Olalekan Johnson, the articles have sparked debate on the appropriateness of such content on official police platforms.
Reacting to the Nigeria Police Force’s alleged anomies, Netizens berated the Force for denigrating the standard and ethics of its institution, to mere individual opinion, in order to manipulate the public on the legality of the embattled Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbotokun.
Pharez Okpere, reacting the opinionated articles featured on Nigeria Police official social media pages, knocked the leadership of the NPF, stated that “Police now sponsoring useless articles to justify illegality.. The IGP should honorably step aside.”
Another netizen, Ibrahim Ibbi-yusuf who commented under the opinionated article on Nigeria Police Facebook page asserted that “As far as law is concerned in Nigeria, there is no law greater than the constitution. Stop this please.”
The Nigeria Police Force has released multiple statements and narratives, now, opinionated articles on its social media pages to counter the position of human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, who argues that the Police Chief, Egbotokun’s continuous stay in office as police IGP is illegal. Sowore was recently granted a 10Million Naira bail, in a cybercrime suit filed by Kayode Egbotokun, for calling the latter an “illegal IGP”.
