SNL Pokes Fun at Morgan Wallen’s Abrupt Exit to “God’s Country”

After Morgan Wallen walked, SNL ran with it.

One week after the country star served as the musical guest and left the stage at Studio 8H on live TV before the credits finished rolling, the NBC series poked fun at his controversial premature exit.

The first quip was featured in the April 5 episode’s cold open sketch, which referenced Donald Trump‘s announcement of broad tariffs on U.S. imports.

“You know, no country is safe from my tariffs,” cast member James Austin Johnson said while playing the president. “I even put tariffs on an island that is uninhabited by humans. It’s called Heard and McDonald Island.”

He continued, “You know, I had to mock up some artwork of McDonald Island. Howard, do you mind bringing that out, please? There we go. I want to go to there. Get me to God’s country, right?”

After his premature exit from the New York City-based show at the end of the March 29 episode, Wallen—who lives in Tennessee—shared a photo of what appeared to be a private jet on a runway on Instagram, along with the now-viral words, “Get me to God’s country.”
