The man that lost his wife in Labour fews days ago has shared the painful story of how he and his family were forced to raise nearly N500,000 after his wife tragically died during childbirth—a sum the hospital demanded but couldn’t wait for before her passing.
In a deeply emotional recount, the man narrated the financial and emotional turmoil he faced after losing his wife. Despite working tirelessly, he struggled to gather the funds needed for her care.
“If the economy were better, raising N500,000 wouldn’t have been so difficult,” he lamented. “Despite working day and night, I couldn’t even boast of having N200,000 in my account.”
Following her death, the hospital informed the family that a surgical procedure was required to remove the baby from her body, costing N150,000.
“They said they had to remove the baby from her body, which would cost N150k,” he explained. “Then we had to buy burial clothes for another N20,000. Before we knew it, we had spent nearly N500,000 at the mortuary.”
He expressed frustration over how the same amount, which the hospital couldn’t wait for him to raise during the critical hours of his wife’s life, was eventually spent on funeral expenses.
“Ironically, this was the same N500k that the hospital couldn’t wait for me to raise. In the end, we managed to raise it,” he added.
