Residents of Amuzukwu Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State are grappling with severe challenges following a four-day power outage that has disrupted daily life and raised health concerns in the community.
The prolonged blackout has left residents struggling to access basic necessities, particularly water. On Monday morning, many were seen wandering the town with empty cans in search of water, while some parents lamented their inability to bathe their children before school due to the scarcity. Water vendors, who typically serve the public, have also been affected, with many unable to operate as the cost of pumping water using diesel has become prohibitive.
Frustrated residents, including Okeoma Jeffrey, Amarachi Kalu, and Nze Paul Onukwufor, have called on the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to urgently restore power to alleviate their plight. One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, accused the EEDC of failing to supply electricity despite collecting payments for bills.
As of now, the EEDC has provided no official explanation for the outage, leaving the community in distress with no clear timeline for resolution.
