President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that he is hated “like hell” but he remains the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He made the remark during a town hall meeting on Wednesday in Benue State, following the gruesome killing of over 200 people by suspected herdsmen in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area.
Tinubu said:
“Not everyone will like you in politics. They hate me, too like hell. But here I am, still your President. I made a promise to protect democracy, freedom, and prosperity, even for my abusers and accusers. That’s leadership.”
His comments came as a show of support for Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, who has faced mounting pressure and criticism amid ongoing insecurity in the state.
Tinubu urged the governor to focus on governance and not be distracted by political opposition:
“Governor Alia, you were elected under the progressive banner to ensure peace, stability, and progress. You are not elected to bury people or comfort widows and orphans. We will work with you to achieve that peace. You must also work with us.”
Condemning the violence, the president emphasized the sanctity of human life:
“The value of human life is greater than that of a cow. We were elected to govern, not to bury people.”
