Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has revealed that he and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce were instrumental in securing Peter Obi as the vice presidential running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 general elections under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a post on X on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Omokri disclosed that Obi unsolicitedly sent him his CV and persistently followed up, urging him to review it. Omokri, who admitted to disliking the former Anambra State governor, said his actions were driven by loyalty to Jonathan, who specifically endorsed Obi for the role.
“Atiku called me and asked me to headhunt a vice presidential candidate. I immediately consulted President Jonathan, who said it’s Peter Obi,” Omokri stated. “I told him, ‘Sir, I don’t like Peter Obi,’ but I did it out of loyalty.” He added that Obi’s persistence, including sending his CV and checking on its receipt, played a part in the process.
