The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on President Bola Tinubu to make public the long-awaited forensic audit report of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), claiming it contains damning evidence against former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Wike alleged that the report, which was submitted under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, was deliberately suppressed by former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
According to him, the audit reveals massive financial irregularities, including claims that Amaechi’s wife received N4 billion monthly under the guise of training Niger Delta women.
Wike vowed to resign as FCT Minister if the report fails to implicate Amaechi, daring the federal government to release it for public scrutiny.
He also questioned the legitimacy of Amaechi’s wife’s business status, describing her as neither an industrialist nor a known entrepreneur in the region.
The feud between Wike and Amaechi, both political heavyweights from Rivers State, has spanned over a decade and continues to fuel tensions within the region’s political class.
Wike also challenged Amaechi’s credibility, alleging inconsistencies in his academic records and accusing him of receiving a luxury Rolls-Royce from a contractor during his time in office.
Amaechi has since denied all allegations, describing them as false and politically motivated. He has accused Wike of using smear tactics to distract from more pressing issues.
