Group accuses Amaechi of inciting violence

The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative (GMI) has condemned recent comments made by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that Nigerians should not re-elect President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

It described the statement as reckless, inflammatory, and a veiled incitement to violence.

Amaechi reportedly suggested that Nigerians must take their fate into their own hands to prevent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, while accusing less than 100,000 elites of plundering the country’s resources.

In a statement issued and signed by its National Coordinator in Abuja, Samaila Musa, the body warned that such rhetoric threatens national peace and stability.

It described Amaechi’s remarks as dangerous and irresponsible, cautioning that they evoke historical precedents of violence.

The Movement urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to reject calls to violence and embrace peaceful advocacy and civic engagement.

It noted that as a former government official, Amaechi should promote unity and constructive dialogue, not incite division.

The group called on the federal government to take immediate action, including Amaechi’s arrest, to prevent potential unrest. It stressed that no leader should be allowed to destabilize the country through inflammatory statements, especially one who once benefited from the same system he now criticizes.
