Actress Tiffany Haddish wants DUI case tossed as she claims 4-year delay is costing her work

Tiffany Haddish is seeking to have her long running DUI case in Georgia dismissed, arguing that years of delays have violated her constitutional right to a speedy trial.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the actress and comedian filed a motion asking the court to throw out the case after it reportedly remained unresolved for more than four years.

Haddish was arrested in January 2022 in Peachtree City, Georgia, after police said they found her asleep behind the wheel around 4 a.m. Authorities arrested her on charges related to DUI and improper stopping on a roadway after allegedly believing she had smoked marijuana.

In the new filing, Haddish claimed the case has remained stuck because the judge has yet to rule on key legal motions, including a motion to suppress evidence that was argued in court in May 2024. Her lawyers reportedly stated that they repeatedly contacted the court over the last two years for updates but were continually told officials were still “working on it.”

According to the filing, Haddish announced she was “ready for trial” around 10 different times while waiting for decisions that never came. The actress also argued that the unresolved case has begun affecting her career and finances.

She claimed the pending DUI matter has created difficulties obtaining travel documents for overseas work opportunities, specifically mentioning issues connected to Australia. Haddish said she has been forced to hire expensive third party assistance to help manage the situation.

The filing also stated that some companies have allegedly been hesitant to work with her because the case remains unresolved, resulting in financial losses. After years of delays, Haddish is now asking the court to permanently dismiss the case.
