A bride whose brother is a notorious cartel leader was assassinated at her own wedding and her husband-to-be, who is another high ranking gangster was abducted when a rival gang attacked them in church.
Karem Lizbeth Yépez Ortiz was reportedly standing on the altar with her soon-to-be-husband, known as ‘El Calamardo,’ at the Our Lady of San Juan church when the gunmen opened fire on her as the mass was about to conclude on Saturday afternoon.

Several Mexican news outlets reported that witnesses said the attackers were wearing bulletproof vests with the initials of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel when they attacked the couple at the church.
Karem Lizbeth Yépez Ortiz’s murder came a day after María Guadalupe López Esquivel, a high-ranking female operative for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel died during a confrontation with Mexican security forces in La Bocanda.
López Esquivel was 21-years-old and was known as ‘La Catrina,’ Mexico’s ‘Grande Dame of Death,’ a satirical skeleton figure celebrated on the Day of the Dead.
