Bjornsson sets world record with 501 kg deadlift

Hafthor Bjornsson set a world record in the deadlift on Saturday, hoisting 501 kilograms (1104.52 pounds).

The 31-year-old set the record in his native Iceland.

Known as “Thor,” the 6-foot-9, 425-pound Bjornsson broke the previous record of 500 kilograms (1,102.31 pounds), set by England’s Eddie Hall in 2016.

Bjornsson is best known for his role as “The Mountain” Gregor Clegane in the HBO series “Game of Thrones.”

He won the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2018 and has finished third or better every year since 2012.
