Media mogul and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring the once-powerful opposition party has been reduced to a “carcass” hijacked by anti-democratic forces.
In a blunt resignation letter addressed to his ward leadership, Momodu said the PDP had collapsed internally and could no longer represent the values he once believed in.
“My reason is simple and straightforward,” he wrote. “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.”
Momodu described his decision to leave as an honourable exit, stating it was time to “abandon the carcass of the party” and align with a new political direction. He announced his support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he said many disillusioned members are now joining.
His departure reflects ongoing turmoil within the PDP, which has recently faced infighting, defections, and leadership crises that have weakened its influence as Nigeria’s main opposition party.
Momodu closed his letter with appreciation to his local party leaders: “I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times.”
