Brooklyn Gifts of the Magi

Caroline sold one of her favorite photographs to her sketchiest Instagram follower (the one who would constantly DM her with just the eyes emoji) to pay for a really nice pair of black jeans for Andrew, but Andrew had already Poshmarked the sneakers that would have looked great with the jeans in order to buy a frame for Caroline’s photograph.

Andrew had a Lagunitas waiting for Caroline when she got to the bar, but she’d already pounded two tequila shots before leaving her house, to cut down on Andrew’s tab.

Caroline got into the Museum of Natural History for free using her consultant friend’s corporate membership without knowing that, a few minutes earlier, Andrew had panicked and purchased a half-price ticket for her using his N.Y.C. I.D. because there was a long line forming behind him.

Andrew broke character on his “Sopranos”-meme Twitter account (fifteen thousand followers) to post a loving tribute to Caroline on her birthday, but she had deactivated her own Twitter in order to spend more quality time with him.

Andrew was waiting to watch the next episode of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” with Caroline, but she had already streamed it while waiting for the severely delayed B train to his apartment.

Caroline stopped by Trader Joe’s on her way to Andrew’s to get a big bag of kale for a salad, but Andrew had used up his salad dressing the night before to finish off the big bag of kale that she brought him last weekend.

Andrew gave Caroline his seven-day MetroCard because he was going out of town that weekend to visit his parents and get his teeth cleaned, but Caroline was also going out of town that weekend to visit her parents and get her teeth cleaned.

Caroline ran into her old co-worker, now a successful commercial director, at the Javits Center while getting her vaccine and convinced her to hire Andrew as the director of photography on a shoot the next day, but Andrew turned down the gig in order to have the afternoon free to pamper Caroline as she recovered from the side effects of her shot.

Andrew worked late on a Friday in order to buy Caroline dinner with the overtime pay, but Caroline had already taken melatonin and passed out, so that she could get up early the next morning to nab two tickets for a telecast of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” which she knew was based on Andrew’s favorite book series, though he did not consider it canon.

Caroline signed Andrew up for a Zoom screenwriting class for Hanukkah, but Andrew hadn’t been writing so much ever since his laptop got super glitchy while he was trying to catch up to Caroline on “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” via a malware-ridden Kazakhstani Web site, after his ex finally changed her Disney+ password.

Andrew surprised Caroline with a reservation at this trendy new Thai place that she’d been wanting to try, but he forgot that Caroline had previously told him to keep that night free because H.E.R. was doing an outdoor concert in McCarren Park, and she hadn’t got tickets or anything yet, but now it was just totally off the table, so . . .

Caroline and Andrew both bought more weed on the same day.
