TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was up in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets were mixed and the loonie was down against the U.S. dollar.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 43.99 points at 15,861.10.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 55.89 points at 26,707.24. The S&P 500 index was down 0.11 of a point at 3,236.81, while the Nasdaq composite was up 41.24 points at 10,674.23.
The Canadian dollar traded for 74.57 cents US compared with 74.86 cents US on Wednesday.
The November crude contract was down 14 cents at US$39.79 per barrel and the November natural gas contract was up three cents at US$2.83 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was down US$5.60 at US$1,862.80 an ounce and the December copper contract was down nearly six cents at US$2.94 a pound.
